HAVE THE POLICE CONTACTED YOU?

IF THE POLICE HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED YOU:

  • DO NOT TALK. The police may try and engage in casual conversation or act like they are on your side. THEY ARE NOT!!! They may say, "this is not a big deal," or "we just want to hear your side." This is a common tactic by the police to elicit information from you.

  • CONTACT ME NOW: If the police begin to question you or ask you to sign any sort of waiver, tell them you are represented and all questions must be directed to Zach Tabler, your defense attorney.

  • MIRANDA: If you are arrested, the police will likely but are not required to read your "Miranda Rights." Basically they must read you this right prior to questioning, so if they do not ask questions, then they are not required to inform you of your "Miranda Rights."

  • IF YOU GO TO JAIL: When you are booked into the jail, tell the officer that pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 2935.20, you shall be permitted a reasonable amount of phone calls to obtain legal counsel. You also have the right to be visited immediately and consult privately with your attorney.

A criminal conviction can have lifelong consequences and the police will not just go away.
